The Lincoln Home National Historic Site in Illinois protects the residence of President Abraham Lincoln. This fantastically restored home is a celebrated tourist’s destination these days. Showings of the house take visitors into the sitting room, formal parlor, dining room, guest bedroom, Abraham Lincoln’s bedroom, Mary Lincoln’s bedroom, offspring’s room, help’s room, kitchen, backyard and the outbuildings.

In 1844, after the wedding of Lincoln to Mary Todd, they moved into the residence. It was here that almost all of Lincoln’s political opinions were formed. The birth and funeral of Eddie Baker, Lincoln’s 2nd lad, happened in this house. Their third son, William Wallace, was born here as well. The dwelling was renovated quite a few times and the last changes took place in 1860, one year before the Lincoln household moved into the white house.

While you’re here you may also take a tour within the historic neighborhood close to President Lincoln’s dwelling of 17 years. This area is a requirement for your Illinois travel plans. Several of the most explored residences in this neighborhood are-

The Sprigg home – the house was owned by Julia Sprigg, a friend of Mary Lincoln. The Sprigg home is one of the most visited houses in this neighborhood. It was owned by a buddy of Mary Lincoln, Julia Sprigg. Julia’s daughter cared for the Lincoln children.

The Dubois house- the house was owned by Jesse K. DuBois until 1864. Du Bois was a dear friend of President Lincoln and even named his son after him.

The Corneau residence- Charles Corneau, a druggist as well as friend of the Lincoln household owned this residence from 1855-1860.

The Miller residence- the house belonged to Allan Miller, a contemporary and neighbor of Lincoln. The residence exhibits the common household of a well off Springfield entrepreneur of the time.

You can make a choice of a guided visit or a cellphone tour while discovering the Lincoln residence and its neighborhood. You may also watch Abraham Lincoln: A Journey to Greatness, a movie profiling Abraham Lincoln’s existence, at his preserved household. Showings of the video are played several times through the day.

Walking around the park only requires half your day, so you may as well visit some close attractions. About 32 kilometers Northwest of Springfield is the New Salem State Historic Site and is the place where Abraham Lincoln spent his early adulthood. Several fascinating displays detailing Lincoln’s life are available within the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library.
